Why A2P 10DLC registration fees are required

Brian Buell

Major U.S. carriers have begun requiring registration fees for A2P 10DLC. Your next monthly bill will reflect this one-time registration fee, which registers your brand and campaign with The Campaign Registry (TCR) and T-Mobile.

The Basics of A2P 10DLC

What is A2P 10DLC?

A2P 10DLC refers to a system in the United States that allows businesses to send application-to-person (A2P) messaging via standard 10-digit long code (10DLC) phone numbers. This system is specific to long code messaging in the United States and does not affect short codes or toll-free numbers.

How does A2P 10DLC work?

There are two important requirements under the new A2P 10DLC system:

  1. Brand registration: Businesses must identify who they are to the carrier networks.
  2. Campaign registration: Businesses must register what type of messages they are sending (i.e., notifications).

Registering Your Brand & Campaigns

When should I register and why?

Registration of your brand and campaigns should be completed ASAP. Starting Oct. 1, 2021, there will be a heightened risk of increased filtering for unregistered traffic, which could cause SMS delivery failures for your account.

How do I register?

To register your account, visit Account Settings -> Business Branding and complete the required 10DLC information. We have integrated with TCR to meet the requirements of carriers and will submit your information on your behalf.

When completing your 10DLC information, make sure to double-check that your information matches your legal business information as registered with the government. It is crucial your business name, tax ID (9-digit EIN), and business address match your business registration exactly.

How much does registration cost?

  • If you completed your 10DLC information before Aug. 20, 2021, your fee is $50.
  • If you completed your 10DLC information after Aug. 20, 2021, your fee is $100.

Why is there a difference in registration fees?

Prior to Aug. 21, 2021, our third-party vendor responsible for registering and vetting your brand was waiving their $50 registration fee to register your brand. That fee is no longer being waived.

What does the registration fee cover?

Your registration fee covers:

  • TCR brand and campaign registration
  • T-Mobile brand activation

Are these fees optional?

These fees are mandatory. This is an industrywide change, and all customers using a 10DLC number to message contacts through any software app will need to complete this registration process to avoid filtering and potential blocking from carriers.

Are these fees exclusive to UpLaunch?

No. UpLaunch will try to simplify the registration process and minimize pricing as much as possible for you. But unfortunately, these fees are unavoidable and a nationwide requirement.

Please know that we are advocating for our customers and lessening the financial impact as much as possible while making sure to give you the highest SMS deliverability.
